Southern Combination Football League - fixtures dates & times, league tables & results

Loxwood Football Club, nickname “The Magpies” was founded in 1920. Since its formation, the football club has competed, on and off, in local village football for 75 years. In 1997 the club re-formed and joined the West Sussex Football League, starting at the bottom of the regional county pyramid in division 5. Over the following 9 years the club progressed through the West Sussex Football League divisions, securing promotion from the West Sussex League Premier division to the full Sussex County league in 2006. In its second season of Sussex County league division 3 football the club won promotion, as champions, to division 2 where it remained for 6 seasons. For 4 of those 6 seasons the club finished in the top 6 of the division, including 3rd place in 2013/14 season. This secured promotion for the club to finally achieve step 5 football in Sussex County League division 1. In fact 2013/14 was a double winning season with promotion and the Sussex Division 2 Cup winners, our first ever Senior Trophy.

Effectively, over a 16 year period, this historic village football club has evolved from a complete minnow into a senior football club, punching well above its weight, with major towns and cities across the whole of the Sussex County. Over this period, the club has also added a Reserve team and forged a strong relationship with the local junior club, supporting organised football from age 6 right through to 16. In the 2014/15 season, the club will introduce, for the first time, its own junior squads at U11, 12, 13 and 14 age groups as part of a strategy to develop its own future talent from the local and wider community. In parallel with the progression of the teams has been the development of the clubs facilities. In 2006 the club wrote a 10 year plan which targeted to grow the club from Sussex County league division 3 to a sustainable Sussex County League division 1 club, competing with the best in Sussex. This has seen the development of the clubs ground and facilities, necessary for county league progression. In 2010 and 2011 the club raised almost £100,000 from FA funds, local authority support and internal fund raising events. With this money the club installed state of the art floodlights for evening fixtures and a purpose built modern 100 seater stand for spectators.

The Reserve Team competes in the Sussex County Reserves West Division having come fourth in the 2013/14 season. This was a great performance but one that the squad and management are keen to improve on for the 2014/15 season. Many of the squad are fairly local as we try to develop players in and around our immediate area wherever possible.

The Loxwood Under 18s are part of the LTB Sussex Academy. It is a full time academy with training every day and education one day a week. The team will be competing in The Southern Youth League. As well as league matches the team will be playing professional clubs all over England, with games already organised against the likes of Blackpool, Crystal Palace, AFC Wimbledon and many more.

The club also has relationship with Kirdford Junior FC, which runs teams from Under 7 to Under 16, aiming to pool resources, support local youth development and provide a natural progression for local players from youth football to full County League standard.

To ensure what we have achieved is sustainable in the longer term and for the benefit of community sport we really need your support. We need volunteers to help with match days, financial sponsors, Committee members or simply come and support us on match days. If you can help, please contact Ray Merridew on 01403 753786.
